 Good content but suffers from sloppy editing Jul 17, 2009
There is some great content in this book but the finished product needs better presentation.
I bought this book because the lovely pattern shown in the swatch on the cover would work perfectly as a trim. However, after several exhaustive searches, I found that directions for the pattern were nowhere in the book. OK, so the publisher must have taken some liberties with the cover photo which is not the fault of the author or editor. So I looked for another suitable pattern which I did find on page 6. Again another thorough search failed to find that pattern described anywhere in the book either. This is sloppy editing.
Another complaint is the degree to which a logical organization seems to be lacking in how content is arranged which seems to be scattered here and there without much continuity. In just one example, instructions on hairpin lace are scattered throughout the book beginning on page 7, then 43-4, then 51-2 and information on crocheting squares is in many separate places but information on joining them is someplace else.
Another area which needs better arrangement is that which caption goes with which illustration is not always obvious. Captions might be to the left, right, over, or under the illustrations or run into two columns (see pages 94 and 112-4). It takes some effort to study some pages and decide which caption goes where.
These problems can distract from the pleasure of using the book and I hope they are corrected if there is another edition.

This is a great book for beginners and the curious. Easy to read and the instruction are easy to follow.

This book is great for everyone. I bought one for my daughter who is just beginning to crochet and I liked it so much I bought one for myself. The graphics are really big and makes it easy to see how the stitches are to be made. The best book I have found yet for teaching crochet.

This is the best basic book one can buy. The companion knitting book also falls into the same category of BEST BUY!
